Music Marketing Project!

Hello! I am popping on to tell you guys about some exciting work I am currently doing in my media course. We are now working on a music marketing project where we have to do a few case studies on record labels and some artists they have signed as well as going through the process of creating our own music video. This of course includes working with my team collaboratively to create a shot list and story boards to prepare to film and make a presentation on how we are going to market it. We've only just started a week ago but I'm going to tell you all about what we've done so far and what we plan to do in the next coming weeks!

My team is made up of my peers Cristy, Thiago, and Tanish and together we have already had a great start on the project. Through working together in class we decided to work with the indie rock song Mountain At My Gates by the FOALS. We chose this song because we think it was the best to work with and we genuinely liked it the most. After we chose the song we started brainstorming ideas on what kind of music video we wanted to do and what message we wanted our audience to receive. Once we all agreed on what could work best we decided to get started on our case studies right away to get a deeper understanding of record companies and gain insight on what they do to promote their artists. We chose to research Columbia Records and Fueled by Ramen considering they both represent some major rock artists today.

This is only the tip of one of our charts filled with our research. It includes the history of the company, some of the other artists they represent, and a lot of research about our bands. We chose to research bands Vampire Weekend, AC/DC, Panic! At The Disco, and Twenty One Pilots. When researching we found so much information regarding their marketing strategies and how they interact with their fan base. I personally appreciated how Twenty One Pilots has more than just music videos on their Youtube. They also have clips from concerts and even personal interviews where fans can actually get to know who they are listening to and get insight on their goofy personalities. This strengthens the bond between the fan base and the band and creates a strong sense of loyalty between them.

Once we finished the chart, we did not wait long to start creating a shot list for our music video.

This is a little preview as to what we have so far and we are very eager to continue work on it. Cristy has also gathered a few friends to act and take part in the video along with starting a separate doc where we have worked together on separating shots and locations and where we are keeping other details of the video. Our next steps involve perfecting what we have so far and creating the story boards to actually shoot the video! Hope you guys have a good day and I'll keep you updated on what's to come :)
